Al-Qahhaar ( The Dominant, The Subduer, The Omnipotent, The Irresistible )

Allah is The Owner of Absolute Power. No one can stop HIM from enforcing HIS Will. None can frustrate HIM. If HE wants to make a day longer, no one can stop this action of HIM. If Allah decrees the destruction of a nation, no one can protect that nation from destruction. Allah finally destroys the cruel Pharaoh’s and whenever Allah ordains their ruin, they get ruined and none can protect them. We must fear Allah’s Anger and must always try to obey Allah and Allah’s Prophet (Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon him) as well as we must frequently say astaghfirullah for the forgiveness of our sins. Allah takes revenge from those who are arrogant to HIM and those who harm others. All creation is beggar and humble to Allah. They have no power to benefit or harm nor can they bring any good except by the Will and Command of Allah.

This beautiful name of Allah has come in 6 places in the Holy Quraan, those are:

Surah yousuf,

Surah Al-Ra’d (read as Ar-Ra’d)

Surah Ibraheem,

Surah saad,

Surah Al-Zumar (read as Az-Zumar).

Surah Ghaafir (also called Al-Mu’min).

The verses with their English translation are:

Surah Yousuf 39

يٰصَاحِبَىِ السِّجۡنِ ءَاَرۡبَابٌ مُّتَفَرِّقُوۡنَ خَيۡرٌ اَمِ اللّٰهُ الۡوَاحِدُ الۡقَهَّار39

(12:39) Fellow-prisoners! Is it better that there be diverse lords, or just Allah, the One, the Irresistible?

This verse is about the preaching of Yousuf alaihi salaam to the two prisoners in the prison when they wanted from him the meaning of their dreams.

Surah Al-Ra’d verse 16 (translation only):

(13:16) Ask them: “Who is the Lord of the heavens and the earth?” Say: “Allah.”26 Tell them: “Have you taken beside Him as your patrons those who do not have the power to benefit or to hurt even themselves?” Say: “Can the blind and the seeing be deemed equals?27 Or can light and darkness be deemed equals?”28 If that is not so, then have those whom they associate with Allah in His Divinity ever created anything like what Allah did so that the question of creation has become dubious to them?29 Say: “Allah is the creator of everything. He is the One, the Irresistible.”30

Surah Ibraheem verse 48—51:

(14:48) (Do warn them of the) Day when the heavens and the earth shall be altogether changed;57 when all will appear fully exposed before Allah, the One, the Irresistible!

(14:49) On that Day you shall see the guilty ones secured in chains;

(14:50) their garments shall be black58 as if made out of pitch, and flames of the Fire shall cover their faces

(14:51) so that Allah may requite each person for his deeds. Allah is swift in reckoning.

Surah Saad verses 65:

قُلۡ اِنَّمَاۤ اَنَا مُنۡذِرٌ , وَّمَا مِنۡ اِلٰهٍ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ الۡوَاحِدُ الۡقَهَّارُ65

(38:65) Tell them, (O Prophet):56 “I am nothing but a warner.57 There is no deity but Allah, The One, The Irresistible.

Surah Al-Zumar ( Az-Zumar) verse 4:

(39:4) If Allah had wanted to take to Himself a son, He could have chosen anyone He wanted out of those whom He creates.8 Glory be to Him (that He should have a son). He is Allah: the One, the Overpowering.9

Exp-note 8—9:

8. That is, it is just impossible that Allah should have begotten a son. The only possibility is that Allah should choose someone for Himself; and whomever He chooses will inevitably be from among the creatures, for everything in the world, apart from Allah, is His creation. Now, evidently, however exalted and chosen a creature might be, it cannot have the position of the offspring. For between the Creator and the created there exists a great disparity of nature and essence and character, and parenthood necessarily demands that there should be the unity of nature and essence between a father and his offspring. Besides, one should also bear in mind the point that the words: “If Allah had intended to take a son, He could have chosen from what He created” themselves give the meaning that Allah has never intended so. Here the object is to impress that not to speak of taking a son, Allah has never even intended so.

9. The following are the arguments by which the doctrine of parenthood has been refuted:

First, that Allah is free from every defect and fault and weakness. Obviously, children are needed by the one who is defective and weak. The one who is mortal and stands in need of them, so that his progeny should continue to live after him in the world. Likewise, he who adopts a son does so either because he feels the need of having an heir, being childless himself, or he adopts a son being overpowered by love of somebody. Attributing such human weaknesses to Allah and forming religious creeds on their basis is nothing but ignorance and shortsightedness.

The second argument is that Allah in His essence and Being is unique. He is not a member of a species, whereas, evidently, offspring must necessarily belong to a species. Furthermore, there can be no concept of offspring without marriage, and marriage can take place only between homogeneous individuals. Therefore, the one who proposes offspring for the Unique and Matchless Being like Allah, is ignorant and foolish.

The third argument is that Allah is Omnipotent, i.e. whatever is there in the world is subdued to Him and is held in His powerful grasp. No one in this Universe has any resemblance with Him in any way or degree on account of which it may be imagined that he has a relation with Allah.

Surah Ghaafir verses 16—17: (Another name of this surah is Al-Mu’min) Here is the translation of the two verses with the exp. note 27.

(40:16) the Day when they will emerge and nothing of them shall be hidden from Allah. (On that Day they will be asked): “Whose is the kingdom today?”27 (The whole world will cry out): “It is Allah’s, the One, the Overpowering.”

Exp-note 27:

27. That is, though in the world many vain and selfconceited people publicly proclaimed to be the kings and sovereigns, whose, in fact, is the Kingdom today? Who is the Owner of the powers and authority and Whose is the command? If a person hears these words in his right senses, he will be filled with terror, no matter how mighty a king or dictator he might be posing himself to be, and will immediately come to his senses. Here the mention of an historical event will not be out of place. When the Samanid ruler, Nasr bin Ahmad (301-331 A.H.), entered Nishapur, he held a court and after ascending the throne desired that the proceedings be started with recitation from the Quran. At this an elderly pious man came forward and recited this very section of this Surah. When he came to this verse, Nasr was struck with awe; he descended the throne trembling, took off the crown and fell down in prostration, saying: O my Lord, Kingdom is Thine, not mine!

(40:17) (It will then be said): “Today shall everyone be fully recompensed for his deeds. None shall be wronged today.28 Surely Allah is Swift in Reckoning.”29

I have posted a few verses in Arabic which have the name Al-Qahhaar. Some more verses which I posted, were  to understand the text and I posted them when needed. Please note it that in all of the 6 places “Al-Qahhaar and Al-Waahid (The One) “ are mentioned together. This indicates that the Tawheed (Faith in the absolute Oneness of Allah is extremely important to protect ourselves from the anger and punishment of The Irresistible God— Allah Almighty. Man, a weak creation, should not confront The Omnipotent God.

I also posted some of the exp-notes as it seemed to me necessary for full understanding.
