According to the scholars, this name Allah is “Al-Aa’zam” that is the Ismi-Aa’zam, so that if someone prays using this name, his du’aa is accepted and if he begs to Allah using this name, he will be given whatever he asked for.

Allah is the Name of Almighty God which is All- inclusive of the meanings and Beautiful Attributes of Allah. According to some scholars like Ibn Qayyim, Sebawiyyah and Al-Tabari, it is derived from Al-ilah while others don’t consider it to be derived from any word. This name is called Lafaz “Jalaalah”. Al-Tabari said that the Name “Allah” is Dho-Al-Alohiyyah wa Al-Ma’boodiyyah which means that it is related with God-hood and worshipping. Allah is the only One Ilah (God) and the only One Ma’bood (The Supreme Being to be worshipped).
We find the Name Allah in many verses that tell us about Tawheed. Tawheed means the absolute Oneness of God and that is Allah Alone. The examples of such verses are:
Kalemah Tayyibah:
Laa ilaaha illa Allah, Muhammadur-Rasoolullah.
There is no God except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Kalemah Shahaadah:
Ash-hadu anlaa ilaaha illa Allah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadar-Rasoolullah.
I testify that there is no God except Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.
Kalemah Tawheed:
Laa ilaaha illa Allaho wahdahoo laa shareeka lah, Lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, yuhyee wa yumeetu wa huwa Hayyun laa yamoot abadan abada Dhul-Jalaali wal- Ikraam, bi-yadihil khair wa huwa ala kulli shai’in Qadeer.
There is no God but Allah, The One Who has no associate/partner. HIS is the kingdom and HIS are the praises, HE gives life and death and HE is always alive, and will never die, HE is the Lord of Majesty and Bounty, in HIS Hand is all good, and HE has power over all things.
The first verse of surah Al-Ikhlaas:
Qul howa-Allaho Ahad
Say, “HE is Allah the Unique One”.
WE see that in all of the above verses, which describe the Oneness of God, the Name Allah is used.
One of the qualities of this name of All-Mighty God is that all other names of All-Mighty God are connected to it. For e.g. see the three verses of surah Al-Hashr, verses 22, 23, 24. Their translation is here:
(59:22) He is Allah: there is no god but He; the Knower of the unseen and the manifest, He is the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
(59:23) He is Allah: there is no god but He: the King, the Holy7 the All-Peace, the Giver of security, the Overseer, the Most Mighty, the Overpowering, the All-Great. Exalted is He from whatever they associate with Him.
(59:24). He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

In all of the above three verses the other names are connected to the name “Allah”.
In all common adhkaar (the words used for the rememberance of Allah) this name “Allah” comes with the other names. For e.g. we say: Allaho Akbar, Alhamdulillah (li-Allah), Bismi-Allah= Bismillah, Subhaan-Allah, Hasbun-Allah, Astaghfiru-Allah=Astaghfirullah and so on. In short, this name Allah seems to be like the personal name of Allah because it is primarily and commonly used everywhere.
The scholars say that the name “Allah” came in the Holy Quraan more than 2200 times and 33 verses started with this name “Allah.”
The meaning of this name comes from the original word “Ilaah”, Al-Ilaah (the proper noun of ilaah) means Al-Ma’bood i.e. God to be worshipped. This name is related with the term Al-Alo-hiyyah and Al-Aboodiyyah. Al-Alo-hiyyah is related with ilaah (god) and al-aboodiyyah (worship) is related with Al-ibaad (the servants) who are obligated to worship Allah. Although ilah is a common term used for any god as in the kalimah Tayyibah Allah said: “Laa ilaaha (no god) illa-Allaho” (except Allah). The proper meaning is “there is no god except Allah. In other words Allah is the only one God. So Al-Ilaah (The God) which is a proper noun of ilaah is also from the beautiful names of Allah, it came in the following verses:
Al-Baqarah 163:
وَإِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۖ لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ – 2:163
(2:163) And your God is One God, there is no god but He; the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
Surah Al-Tawbah (At-Tawbah) 31 (translation only):
[9:31] They take their rabbis and their monks for their lords apart from Allah and also the Messiah, son of Mary, whereas they were commanded to worship none but the One True God. There is no god but He. Exalted is He above those whom they associate with Him in His Divinity.
Ibn-Abbaas said that Allah is Dhul- Alohiyyah (The Owner of God-hood) and Dhul-Aboodiyyah (The One and only One who deserves and has the right to be worshipped by all the creations and creatures).
The attribute ilaah, Dhul-alohiyyah is such a great quality of Allah that Allah is a unique Ilaah, none other than Allah has the right to be worshipped. And if someone takes a diety other than Allah then if he died without doing tawbah and repentence to Allah, he will burn in Hell forever and ever, no way of coming out of the Hell-Fire, (may Allah protect us, aameen.).
This name Allah is inclusive of all excellences, all praises, goodnesses, kindnesses, beauty, generosity, and so on. If you remember Allah with this name “Allah” at the time of fear, your fear will go away, if pain or stress, it will be relieved, if sustenance is narrow, it will increase. In short when you remember Allah with this name and pray and supplicate to Him, all troubles will be removed and problems solved. Thus this is the name with which pains are relieved and blessings descend, evils removed and good prevails.
Allah is Dhul- Alohiyyah (The Owner of God-hood) and Dhul-Aboodiyyah (The One and only One who deserves and has the right to be worshipped). Yes! Allah must be worshipped because only He is the Creator and only He will give us life after death, account us, and reward or punish us according to justice.
Allah must be worshipped because Allah is very High, Unique, the Maker of our fortunes, the giver of all blessings which cannot be counted as Allah said in the surah Al-Nahl (An-Nahl) verse 18 (translation only):
(16:18). And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Allah and only Allah must be worshipped because Allah is the only One Owner of the whole universe, the owner of the kingdom and sovereignty. It is only Allah Who brings rains within proper limit, waters the earth, grows all kinds of vegetations to be food for us and our animals, and also stores the water for us in the earth which then flows out in the form of springs and rivers. The stored water is also used by mankind from the wells. Then should n’t such a kind Lord and Sustainer be thanked and worshipped? Then in case of disobedience and ingratitude the same Powerful Lord brings rains to unlimited extent so that floods happen and the transgressors get killed and destroyed not only here but also are taken to the everlasting fire in hell! Then shouldn’t such a powerful and Just Lord be obeyed and worshipped?
Allah has the right to be worshipped because Allah encompasses all things by His knowledge, Command, Wisdom, Kindness, mercy, Power, Honor, Forcefulness, and is perfectly Self-Sufficient while all others being the creation/creatures, depend upon Him for their needs in all fields of life. They need sustenance, good health, if ill then need cure from diseases, and safety from all troubles. They ask du’aa (supplication/prayer) from Him for their children and for all their needs while Allah accepts our prayers and provides us every good thing that we need. Thus we must worship only the One God Who has the all power and ability to fulfil all needs of the creatures. Therefore, the attribute of Al-Alohiyyah is inclusive of the all attributes and the great qualities of Allah All-Mighty. Thus all creatures worship Allah. Allah said in the surah Al-Zukhruf verse 84, its translation is:
(43:84). And it is Allah who is [the only] deity in the heaven, and on the earth [the only] deity. And He is the Wise, the Knowing.

That is the servants /creatures worship Him in the heavens and on the earth, willfully or unwillfully. All are low and humble before His greatness and all are the followers of Allah’s Will.
The Ibaad-ur-Rahman (the obedient servants of the Beneficent Lord) struggle hard, according to their strength and ability, to worship and obey Him. They readily obey the Commands conveyed by His Messenger salla Allaho alayhi wa sallam and they struggle for Allah’s cause as much as they can. Sometimes these two attributes Al-Alohiyyah (Ilaah/Godhood) and Al-Aboodiyyah (worshippling) came together in the Holy Quraan as for e.g. see the following verses.
Surah Taha verse 14 (only translation):
(20:14). Indeed, I am Allah . There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
